For a client from the real estate sector, Geofabrik created CSV lists of all streets for hundreds of cities, together with simplified centreline geometries. One street can be represented by dozens of individual way segments in OpenStreetMap, but for this project we wanted one simple line geometry that approximated the position of each road, with side branches and parallel lanes removed, and small gaps closed.
